JVC just announced the launch of a new consumer high definition camcorder that combines a 3-CCD image sensor, high definition 1440 x 1080 recording and embedded 60GB hard disk storage in a compact size that fits in the palm of the hand. Sony's NSC-GC1 Net-sharing CAM for Social Networks

Sony has just announced that they will be releasing there new ‘made for social networking sites’ camcorder in September. If you like the look of the NSC-GC1 Net-sharing CAM you can pre-order it starting July 19.

The NSC-GC1 Net-sharing CAM is targeted at social networking site users; specifically those that frequent YouTube and Crackle. Priced at around $200 The Net-sharing CAM can shoot video ranging from QVGA (320x240) at 15 frames per second to VGA (640x480) at 30 frames per second. The camcorder records directly to Sony's Memory Stick DUO memory cards, and the included Picture Motion Browser and PMB Portable software helps streamline uploading videos to the Web. The NSC-GC1 Net-sharing CAM also doubles as a 5 MP camera for those still shots that you want to capture.

It has a built-in flash, 4x digital zoom and a 2.4-inch color LCD screen. Powered with rechargeable Lithium Ion technology, the model has a battery life of about 90 minutes (depending on recording conditions). It can record about five hours of web-ready video footage on a Memory Stick™ PRO Duo media card, when recording with the default settings on a 2GB media card

UK Police Get Head Mounted Video Cameras

Not content with having surveillance cameras on every street corner, the UK is now about to fit police officers with head mounted video cameras. These 'head-cams' will be able to store up to 400 hours of footage with soundtrack on their hard drive.

The ‘head cams’ have already been tested in Plymouth which showed that these "body worn video devices" led to an increase in the proportion of crimes where the offender was brought to justice compared with incidents where the cameras were not used.


Before they can be used in an area the local police have to advertise the fact that they will be using this new type of surveillance gear with posters such as: "Glass head", "Police, camera, action!", "Handcuffed" and "Video Screen". When an officer is using the ‘head cam’ they will also have to display a sign informing the public that they will be using the device. Maybe a bid arrow on their head stating ‘You are being filmed, be careful what you do’….

Sony's Memory Stick High Definition HDR CX7 Camcorder

The Sony High Definition HDR-CX7 solid state storage camcorder should be released in early July. The camera weighs a mere 450g, with dimensions 69 x 67 x 131 mm and will utilize Sony’s Memory Stock Due cards. On an 8GB card you will be able to record around 1 hour of top quality footage at 15Mbps or around 3 hours if you reduce the quality to 5Mbps.

The Sony HDR-CX7 has 6.1 megapixel resolution, 10x optical zoom, HDMI output and a battery life of around 45 minutes with the standard battery.

Canon HR10 High Definition DVD Camcorder

The HR10 is Canon's first AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) DVD camcorder that records true 1080 High Definition resolution video. The HR10 captures twice as much video using less storage onto DVDs which play in AVCHD compatible Blu-ray disc players. Don’t worry if you have not ventured into the Blu-ray arena, the HR10 can also capture and record standard definition video for playback on regular DVD machines.

The HR10 measures 2.6" wide, 3.7" high and 5.2" deep and as of today May 7, 2007 it is the world smallest AVCHD Format DVD Camcorder.

The Canon HR10 should reach stores by August 2007, price to be determined.
